If you spend time on the water, you are probably familiar with different
types of life jackets, or PFD’s – personal flotation devices.
PFD’s
are an important part of water safety. Some activities require people
to wear specific types of PFDs by law, and for others, it is simply a
good idea.
Our Carib Marine inflatable life jackets are designed to automatically inflate when immersed in water. The automatic inflator on this life jacket won’t prematurely inflate due to rain or humidity as the inflator must be submerged in water to activate. A built-in, indicator window will show if your life jacket is properly armed and ready to use. You will want to visually inspect your life jacket for leaks or tears every few months and service the automatic inflator yearly.
Type I Personal Flotation devices are geared for rough or remote waters where rescue may take a while. Though bulky, they have the most buoyancy and will turn most unconscious people into a face-up position. They are the kind of PFD you’ll likely find on commercial vessels.

Type II Personal Flotation devices are intended for calm inland and coastal waters, where fast rescue is likely. They have a very basic design that is less bulky than Type I, and typically less expensive, but they are not as comfortable as Type III. They will turn some unconscious wearers to the face-up position.

Are suitable for most paddlers where there is a chance for quick rescue. They offer freedom of movement and comfort for continuous wear. These PFDs are designed so wearers can put themselves in a face-up position, but they may have to tilt their head back to avoid being face down in water.

Buoyancy Aid:
Designed for competent swimmers in sheltered water were help is close
at hand. They only provide support to conscious people who can help
themselves, and are an aid to flotation only. They have 50 Newtons (11
lbs.) of flotation.
Life jacket approval 100n100N –
Life Jacket:
For swimmers and non-swimmers in inshore waters. They give reasonable
assurance of safety from drowning in relatively calm waters. Not
guaranteed to self-right an unconscious user, and should not be expected
to protect the airway of an unconscious person in rough water. They
have 100 Newtons (22 lbs.) of flotation.
